Nuestro Secreto

Felipe Alberto - Nuestro Secreto

In March of 2015, a few weeks after releasing my debut album, I was contacted by New York based producer Oscar Pasache. Within a month of connecting with Oscar I was on a flight bound for New York to perform musica criolla, and to share the stage with iconic figures of the genre including one of Latin America’s greatest living guitarists—maestro Alejandro Velásquez, better known as Ales Velas, who only hours earlier had arrived from Peru.

By May of that same year I was travelling again, this time to Peru, to further immerse myself in the secrets of musica criolla, to which until then I had only been exposed through my own family gatherings. I repeated the journey to Peru two more times that year, each time reuniting with Oscar and Ales. These two friends had previously started producing the Pasache Music Traditional Project, also known simply as the Traditional Project. Among the three of us the concept of Nuestro Secreto, a distinct chapter within the Traditional Project, was created.

Through the mystery of Ales Velas’ unique guitar style and Koki Leturia’s caresses of the cajon, we give you Nuestro Secreto. With this album the world may know “Our Secret” of the guitar, the cajon, the lament made song, and all that is musica criolla in a most authentic and contemporary form.

Alma del Ayer

Felipe Alberto - Alma del Ayer

These songs are my attempt to reproduce the pure and passion-filled melodies which I have heard since childhood. The verses conjure within me memories of parties and family gatherings of a bygone era, all filled with joy and love. This music evokes images of old colonial houses with verandas on which aromatic jasmine and rose flowers mingle, of cobblestone patios with gurgling fountains that calm the afternoon heat, and of balconies flavoured with evenings of serenades. It is the lullaby that transports me, in my dreams, to another life and to far off places. Each guitar trill has a history and each verse contains a thousand tales, because this music is the bond that unites a whole people who have sung it since times of old.

In this album I share with you some memories of of departed times and people that I have known in this life, in my dreams, or in stories. All of this, through music, returns to the here and now to become reality once more.
